Excess body hair is a very frustrating problem, which can cause stress, low self-esteem, and other forms of emotional problems. To add to this stress, today's society glorifies our outer appearance to such an extreme, that anything short of the media's projection of beauty is considered undesirable. At Advanced Hair Removal and Skin Care, we can facilitate helping you regain the confidence and beauty you possess
Electrology began in 1875 through efforts of Ophthalmologist, Dr. Charles E. Michel. While performing a procedure to remove an ingrown eyelash, he found that Electrolysis was a reliable and safe way to remove hair, and still is today.
Advanced Hair Removal and Skin Care currently have 3 options available for permanent hair removal and hair reductions. We utilize
Laser hair removal was discovered over 20 years ago. What has been determined is effective laser hair removal requires damage to parts of the living hair follicle responsible for the production and regeneration of a hair shaft. There are three cycles of a hair follicle an active growing phase, a transitional phase and a resting phase. Treatments are scheduled for treatment during optimal growing phase.
Advanced Hair Removal uses a Diode system for hair removal. The diode system emits a near infrared laser light. This light is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser light is pulsed for a fraction of a second. The duration of each pulse is long programmed to pulse long enough to sufficiently damage the follicle.
Damage caused to the hair follicle can produce permanent results. Because of the nature of hair and the many factors that influence the growth of hair, results are variable. During your initial evaluation all of these variables and factors will be considered. We will also take into consideration of skin type, hair color, genetics and medication to recommend the appropriate treatment schedule and advise you on realistic expectations.
Immediately following the treatment, the site will be somewhat swollen, appear slightly red in color, and have the feeling of a mild sunburn. The swelling will subside over the next few hours. Redness may remain for a couple of days.
In addition to the swelling and redness already discussed, hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) and hypopigmentation (blanching of the skin), blistering, and crusting or scabbing are other complications that you could see. To minimize the risk of these complications we have an extensive evaluation procedure. We may also find it necessary to perform a "test spot" and have you return in a week for evaluation of the area tested before scheduling your first treatment.
The amount of time required for the treatment depends on the size of the area requiring treatment. For example, and upper lip may require 5 minutes, and an underarm could require 15-20 minutes.
Each scheduled appointment will begin with a reevaluation of your health, current changes in medication and your sun exposure since your last treatment. Second the area to be treated will then be thoroughly cleaned and shaved. Third, goggles will be placed over the eyes. The eye protection is mandatory because the laser produces a high-intensity beam of energy capable of causing ocular injury.
Laser hair removal is not pain/sensation free. Pain and sensation will be different for everyone and will be different depending on the location of the treatment on the body. The best way to describe the sensation is a "rubber band snapping against the skin". It is also common to experience a heat sensation during your treatment. The most intense sensation is felt during the treatment. The amount of discomfort after this procedure is usually minimal and does not limit most normal physical activities. Since only light is used to remove the hair, there is no bleeding and no open wound is created. You will be given a post treatment sheet which will explain how to care for the area after your treatment.
Current medical science shows that excessive hair growth is primarily caused by three main factors. These factors are Normal Systematic Changes, Heredity, and Glandular Disturbance.
The causes of Normal Systematic Changes may vary from Puberty to menopause to having a hysterectomy.
Puberty certainly changes both the body, and our hair growth patterns. Most commonly, it causes an increase in hair follicle activity and an overal darkening and thickening of the hair shaft.
After a woman experiences menopause, her horomone levels may become diminished causing new hair growth on the face and body. A hysterectomy can also produce the same horomone problems.
Glandular Disturbances originate in our endocrine system. The endocrine system is responsible for our physical development. Even something as simple as medications can interrupt our endocrine system and cause imbalances, producing unwanted hair. Pregnancy can also disrupt the endocrine system.
Last, but not least, heredity is a common cause worldwide for unwanted hair. Regardless of the cause, we are here to help you permanently remove the unwanted hair, and re-claim your self-confidence!
